8 Vidalia onions
1 ½ cans water
2 cans Swansons concentrated beef broth, 10 ¾ oz each

Sauté the onions in a 4 quart stockpot in the butter. Let them cook very slowly over a medium low heat until they are deep brown and caramelized. This will take about half an hour.

Add the water, broth, Worcestershire sauce, and salt and simmer the soup until it is hot.

Preheat the broiler.

Divide the slices of French bread between the ramekins or bowls and ladle the soup over the bread until it is covered and near the top of the bowls.
